On Labor Day weekend 2017 , 20th anniversary of the Quentin Tarantino's film Jackie Brown, I found myself at Del Amo Mall and Redondo Beach, both featured in the film.
Below a scene from Jackie Brown Pam Grier as Jackie, and Robert Forster as Max Cherry.
I decided to begin driving with Uber after a 2 year hiatus. For the past two years I have been Driving Miss Dazy, taxi service, it has been lucrative for me up until this past month. My number one Dazy has quit me.
With Travis Kalanack out and a new CEO of Uber in, and new policies in place, and being very much low of funds, I decided to once again drive, Uber.
Uber driving can be very entertaining, I feel like I am in my own film ,there is no camera , all action takes place in and around my 2010 Prius, the actors are random (names changed) the soundtrack is provided by NPR radio, KPFK, and my own collection of tunes on my Iphone.
As I pulled up to Del Amo mall (now Del Amo Fashion Center)
Across 110th street began playing just as I pulled up to pick up a happy family.
Everyone is happy at the beach! The Dad and Mom and 4 year old son, were from Mississippi. Across 110th Street is the title song to Jackie Brown.
The critically praised title song, written by Bobby Womack and J. J. Johnson, was a No. 19 hit on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart in 1973, and was later featured in Quentin Tarantino's 1997 blaxploitation homage Jackie Brown.
The small family I had picked up asked to be taken to a convenience store to buy beer, before being taken to their Aunt's, Redondo Beach home,
We talked about the weather 86F, at the beach! unusually high for Redondo or anywhere near the California coast.
I enjoyed hearing the southern accents not to often heard here in Southern Ca.
I told Dan the joys of Ubering and the easy way to make extra cash intead of
sitting around in the humidity and heat. They and every passenger commented on the super cold AC in my Prius. Global warming is real and if you believe it is not you have been bamboozled and brainwashed by Faux News or other corporate fat cats that want to continue to destroy this planet. Everyone knows this, except for the 33% that support President Biff.
Dan asked me for my code so he can begin driving Uber in Mississippi.
They said they enjoyed my short ride and tipped a generous cash tip.
For my very next trip I picked up a very tall , very dark (pretty) transvestite named Jacob.
He/she got into my car carefully as she was very smartly dressed and wearing a micro mini skirt. I have to say "she" had nice legs. Jacob complained of the heat, we are now in Compton and she asked me to please hurry, she had a hair appointment. Since this was an Uber pool ride we had to pick up 2 other riders on the way. I always ask if they don't mind , even though they had agreed to Uber pool when they order a ride on their App.
The additional passengers were an attractive young Latina grandma with her 4 year old grandson, who immediately asked of Jacob, "what are you?". Grandma, Connie corrected him and said "No Hijo, ask what is your name, when you meet someone!!"
Uber pool has not been my favorite, but i enjoy how each passenger from very different backgrounds interact. Jacob told Connie, how she was getting a new weave. Connie told about her daughter who does hair in her home. Jacob was happy to know it was a reasonable price and wrote down the phone number of Connie's daughter. After dropping off Jacob, the ride had some potential drama in store. Connie's significant other had left his wallet on the city bus he was riding , he was now on another bus , and Connie offered me cash if i could catch up to the bus where the wallet had been left. She ended up not needing me after I dropped them off at their motel in Compton, we said our goodbyes.
After this experience in Compton I recalled another tall long legged black lady named Queen Latvia. Queenie ordered my taxi service this past spring. She found my on my Craigslist ad , that I no longer list. She needed a ride to the DMV I dropped her there and received my fare of $20 plus tip, and could I also pick her up later?, she asked .
About 3 hours later Queenie, called and needed me to take her to Avis car rentals. I took her to one in Downy and on the way she needed to make copies of her license and other docs . She was on the phone mostly to who I believed to be her insurance agent. She told how her car was vandalized and her purse stolen. After taking her to a copy center and Popeye's drive thru , I took her to Avis. After a very long wait out front of Avis, she came up to my window, "Oh honey, they won't release the car to me without a signature of a licensed driver. I was in a great hurry to get back home to my son, he was now home from school.
I agreed to have her pay me $300 while I used my debit card to get the car leased. Queenie had led me to believe that she is a college student at UCLA and showed her pictures on her instagram account. She claimed to be interested in being my "F' buddy. shocking I do get offers, but never from someone so young.
A short time after leaving her to drive off in her late model Malibu, I learned it was a scam and she was attempting to steal this auto and Avis had no one to call and hound for the return of this vehicle after 2 months. I worked with the fraud department and located her address across 110th street in Compton. She had to return the car and the $2400 plus rental fees were returned to me.
Lesson learned always help out when you can, but if it involves money or sex with a stranger from across 110th street run the other way! There are many scams and fraud attempts that I encounter often. No more random strangers unless it is by way of Uber!
Really for extra income if you are Interested in driving with Uber use my code MITCHK110 . We will both get a generous bonus, if you do.
